Talking Stick Newsletter - August 8, 2011
Today began with hugs and smiles and quiet games. Some participants formed an impromptu circle and got out several boxes of the game "Guess Who?" Other students enjoyed the sand and shell box and conversations with friends and facilitators. With some playing and others watching and talking, it was a calm social start to the day.
Shortly, fantasy and imagination took over the pace of the day. A box with several doors and locks became pirate treasure, and before long pirate ship couches were sailing off to plunder and battle, only too be moored with reluctance at the end of the day. In another room the Silverstream tribe set up a semi permanent camp, gathered food, and tended their ill tribemates, eventually relocating to a cave as the winter set in. Skills were shared between the participants, one teaching another how to make friendship bracelets, and recruiting a facilitator to teach hair wrapping.
Time was spent outdoors, walking like turtles, playing red rover, and exploring the trees.
As a special event, four participants put on a dramatic performance of The Three LIttle Pigs which premiered after clean up time. It kept the audience
on the edge of their seats. The day ended with applause and a strong feeling of unity.
